The Pain Anomaly

Recently a patient told me that he was kicking himself for not coming in for a chiropractic appointment sooner because he felt so much better after his visit. I like to call this this the Pain Anomaly. Even though it sounds like a strange phenomenon from a Star Trek episode, a Pain Anomaly is more like the phenomenon of delaying care even when you know you are in pain. Many intelligent and rational people do this to themselves all the time. I have a few theories on why this occurs:

  1. Reason #1: If I ignore the pain, it will go away on its own.
  2. Reason #2: My schedule is way to hectic to fit one more thing in. See Reason #1.
  3. Reason #3: I’ll wait until I’m completely miserable and then go to my family doctor for pain medication.

Whatever the reason is, they key to beating this anomaly is to being aware of what your body is telling you and to make the time to take care of yourself. Did you know that most chiropractic adjustments only last fifteen minutes and we can usually get you in for same day appointments?  Why not come in and see how chiropractic care can offer relief from your pain symptoms as well as the underlying problem?
